Hi All.

To use the Swiftdsl VoIP phones you will have to enable the UDP ports
5004 & 5010. But if your using other H323 or SIP s/w you should really open 5004:5060 (range 5004<->5060 UDP ports). Unless your got a service at the end of these ports there is little probablity of a cracker getting into your system.

The VoIP phone itself has an integrated web server and DHCP client, so you should have your dhcpd running with a suitable setup for your network. If your worried about crackers going via the VoIP net, then add another ethernet card and network on your system and allow only VoIP products (phones) use that net, thus protecting you other nets/services. This is important if you run a small business or a large home network because your not limited to the number of VoIP phones you can attach to a network.

You can get the full VoIP Phone Manual from:
http://www.grandstream.com/user_manuals/budgetone100.pdf

Hope this assists.
Cheers. Grahame.

Okay folks, I understand there is something I can plug into one phone jack and all the other jacks will become part of the network for VOIP. Anybody know what I need? The phone adapter supplied with the VOIP service will connect only one phone. What do I need to make my phone jacks all operate on VoIP? Only the real information would be welcome. Have a good day.

Hi Soviski,

Your understanding of the VOIP service isn't quite right. Basically you will need a VOIP device which then plugs into your ADSL modem. You then plug a standard phone into your VOIP device. Other phones connected directly to your phone jacks will not be using VOIP service as VOIP needs to go through an internet connection going through your ADSL modem.
Please speak to your VOIP service provider for further explanation on how the service works.

Kind regards,
Rannel
