Having xbox and pc on same connection question

I have a 4 port alcatel router modem. If i want to use xbox and pc, but NOT at the same time, is this the modem I want, and Is it possible to have it set up so that I can use one or the other and have full speed for each?

A four port router would be fine for your Xbox and PC. But a normal modem would also be fine.

If you were to use the router and have both the PC and Xbox running at the same time, you can not both give each the full speed without getting another aDSL connection installed, instead the total amount of bandwidth available for your connection (say 512/128) is shared by the Xbox and the PC.

But if you are just web browsing or using email, it won't affect your XBL experience. It's only downloading big files that will really affect it.
