There are a lot of different firewalls out there and many here may disagree with me but i like zonealarm pro.

THX for reply.
I'm using ZA Pro but recently after I've changed DM602(modem mode) for D-Link DSL504(router) security test like Sygate telling me that I'm not fully protected. Some of my ports are closed but not stealth. What should I change ZA setup or modem setap to fix it.

Hi

Firstly make sure your Internet Zone is set on high, if it is then its your modem/router letting you down, you'll need to RTFM to work out how and what to close to make it more secure.

I have the NB1300 and its pathetic as far as firewalling goes, my old SMC 7004 was heaps better.

I use my linux box for firewalling. There are plenty of free tools that can provide you with a stateful firewall by way of the netfilter (aka IP Tables) tool.

The best firewall for user management using Linux I've come across is Astaro Linux (http://www.astaro.com/) . It's free for personal use (you request and recieve a license).

It's extremely easy to setup and use and works well on an old PII computer. :)

Supports:
VPN
POP3 Proxy with SPAM Protection
SMTP Mail Relay
Port Scanning Detection
Stateful Packet Inspection
SOCKS and HTTP proxy/cache
Backup and Restore configuration
Performance Graphs and the like
Well worth a look. :)

Cheers,

PS: You can also buy AntiVirus and have it automagically check incoming Mail for viruses. :) Also has content blocking available to block out the naughty stuff if you have kids on your ADSL connection.. .this is also a paid add-on that is updated regularly.

THX all you guys for reply.
Yes, I have Norton Antivirus and is working great.
Yes, I've setup all ZA options high so it wasn't my ZA to blame.
The problem was I didn't do my homework properly, it was just
router setup. Enabling DMZ in DSL504 setup option fixed the problem and it looks like all my ports are stealth now.
I've also disabled WOL in my net. adaptor.
THX again

Umm, OpenBSD is an Operating System, not technically a "program".
