Help!
I have read some posts here but Iam still not convinced it is possible to share files on 2 PCs. I got 2 PCs with XP pro connected to a 1300+4 via the ethannet ports 1&2. Did the quick setup, Internet works great on both PCs but the PCs can no longer find each other on the network and share files etc. In the networking propetries I set it for Find an IP address Automatically
I want to leave Internet Connection Firewall turned On and I don't want to use Internet Sharing. Do I need to buy another hub? I just want to be able to turn on 1 PC to get internet access like I have now, but would like to share files and printers on LAN as well.

Cheers Doc

Do both computers have same network name ie mshome default.
Can u see both both computers ie view network. Have you enabled shareing. If not run the create a network but dont 4get to enable sharing. :D

Thanks the Workgroup name was different on one of the PCs and now the LAN works. But it only works if I turn off ICF. Is there a way to configure ICF to allow sharing. In ICF setup / add services tag, there was something about internal and external ports or is it under the ICMP tag.

Cheers Doc.

Opps... the word SHARING I meant ..access the LAN as in the above setup... not internet connection sharing

Don't worry about the firewall on the local machines, the modem uses NAT and that is as good as the microsoft one. If you are worried about security you shouldn't use the built-in one anyway, it's not very good.

When the firewall is on it's doing its job and disallowing connections. Better to get something like zonealarm that you can actually configure.

And ICMP is to do with pings and stuff, so it wouldn't be under there.

Thankyou I agree with you, after talking with some other gurus today. I will just use the NAT in the router as that is as good as any.
