Hey all,
I am new to the great world of Swift.
It's real great.
My question is :
I want to use my comp wireless by airport but get the connection running through my netgear 834..... I have a 1st gen airport base station.
Please help =)

Set your Airport to act as a bridge.
Set your 834 to serve DHCP.
Connect the two with a standard Cat5 ethernet cable.
That should do it...
I've got a Graphite base station but I upgraded to a DG834M when I got the DSL service, and it seems to work quite well; not half as smooth and painless as the Mac gear, but good enough.
Post back if you need help, and I might be convinced to fire up the base station and try some stuff.
cheers

One question though...
Where can I access the option to set up the airport as a bridge (ie. what steps do I need to take to do this?)

OK, this works:
You must set your router to distribute IP addresses, and connect your AP to your router via Ethernet.
Set the AP up for Bridging like this:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58597
If you're running 10.x, then it looks a bit different but it's basically the same.
- Open /Applications/Utilities/Airport Admin Utility.
- Click the "Show All Settings" button
- - Click the "Network" tab
- - Uncheck the box for "Distribute IP addresses" (this makes it a bridge)
- - - Click the "Internet" tab
- - - Set the AP to connect over Ethernet, Using DHCP
- Click the "Update" button in the lower right
The AP should restart, pick up an IP from your router and away you go. Anything connecting to your AP will get an IP from the router via the Bridged AP.
It's sweet. My powerbook is connected to my Airport equipped armchair (nearest random flat space for testing), has collected an IP from the 824 and is happily downloading yesterday's security update...
Have fun
