I seem to havel lost access to the microsoft.public forums.

The odd message is getting through, but the majority are not.

Is this because of the change to Telstra, or is it unrelated?

Using Free Agent 1.93

At first I thought it was because of an unusually deep weekend drop off, but it is now well and truly over the weekend, even in the US

Will it be fixed real soon now?
I know I can use Google or the MS web based reader, but oh the pain, the pain... not to mention the 9 Hour delay on Google!

Yeah... I can concur... they seem to have gone a bit screwy.

I use a fair few of the microsoft.public.* groups... :(

Hopefully this gets sorted out.

I'd love some status reports of the News Server and it's feeds.

Setting up a webpage with News Server stats would also be awesome.... somehow it's looking a bit unreliable at present.

I __REALLY__ don't wanna have to purchase access to a News Server... when we have one here, though broken. :(

I know when I admined the News Server for a Uni here in VIC, it was a beast that needed babby sitting regularly... Usenet feeds often ain't reliable... so it needs a kick in the pants pretty regularly.

Hopefully someone at Swiftel is doing that for us! :D

Cheers,

Matt.

Have you tried msnews.microsoft.com as your newserver for ms feeds?
I am, as I haven't had a new post to ms public newsgroups since Dec 4, but they have been having issues lately and did say they are changing news feed providers.

I would if I knew how to.
Free agent does not appear to support multiple news feeds
(Do any news readers?)
I can just set up jsut MSNews, but I miss out on my other groups then

Am I missing something obvious?

Outlook Express supports multiple news servers.

In comes standard with any recent Windows version. :)

Cheers,

M@tt

PS: It's not the best news-reader in the world but is functional..

Google is your friend. ;)

How do I set up Agent for multiple users or news servers?

As explained in the section on the data directory, Agent stores its setting and data files in the directory specified in the Start In parameter of the shortcut, or in the command line. This means that you can share a single copy of the program files among several independent data directories.

This works well for multiple people using the program, since each directory can have a completely different set of preferences and newsgroup files. It also lets you use more than one news server; the multiple directories are necessary because unless the two servers mirror each other, different messages will be available on each at any given time. Also, the servers will no doubt use different numbering schemes, making it impossible to track read/unread counts.

To do this, after Agent has been installed and run once, create a separate directory for each additional user or news server. Copy the agent.ini file from the default database into each of the additional directories you just made. Create a new shortcut for each setup with the Target field pointing to the program itself (c:\program files\agent\agent.exe, for example) and the data directory (c:\program files\agent\george, perhaps) specified as the Start In field. (See the topic on the data directory for specific instructions on setting this.)
