I have a Netgear FVS318 VPN firewall router and would like to connect the supplied NB1300 modem to this router to utilise the VPN and firewall features instead of connecting the modem to a switch/hub. Is this configuration supported by the NB1300 and Swiftel?
From reading the doco it sounds like it will work if the modem is configured in bridge mode and connected via a crossover cable to the router. Is this correct?
Any info much appreciated.

If I understand you correctly, your configuration will look like this:
ADSL -- NB1300 --- FVS318 ---- Rest of your network
Which is no different to:
ADSL -- Any ADSL Modem --- Any device(s)
As long as you can:
- provide a G.dmt ADSL handshake
- terminate PPPoE or PPPoA
- send CHAP authentication
Then you can do pretty much whatever you want to with the IP traffic.

Sounds good and thanks for that.
Would I then be settings the ADSL config info and authentication on the router and not on the modem or what? Does the modem need to be configured in bridge mode?
Hi I am doing the same sort of thing:
adsl -> nb1300 -> Netgear FR114P FW/router
I configured the NB1300 as a bridge acording to the manual (without any login stuff) and the router does all the authenticaion.
For all intents and purposes the router ignores the NB1300

Hi,
I have an FM114P and was thinking of doing the same.
In regards to the NB1300 connecting to the Netgear router, which port do you use i.e. do plug the NB1300 to any of the ethernet ports on the Netgear or into the Internet port?

I connect ADSL to the Netcomm NB1300 and then to my Netgear FM114P by a standard network cable into the WAN port of the Netgear router. Everything work OK and I could access both the modem and the router but now, for some unknown reasons, I just can't access my Netcomm NB1300 when I use http://192.168.1.1 but I can access my Netgear FM114P router OK...Can someone please advise me how to get access to the Netcomm modem? Should I connect them differently? Thanks

Heya,
For the record, the NB1300 has a DMZ (de-militarised zone) feature. This might be useful in these situations, particularly where the firewall appliance doesn't know how to authenticate.
You'd set the DMZ to be the firewall's IP, and then the modem would forward any traffic that it didn't know how to handle on to the firewall, which should then do its firewall job :)

I assume that the router isn't also 192.168.1.1?
You'll need to make sure that traffic for the NB1300 goes OUTSIDE the firewall, since the modem is actually effectively on the outside.
I'm not sure how you configure your firewall, but it would likely include adding a special route for 192.168.1.1 to go out the external interface. Similarly, your firewall may block incoming traffic from private subnets, so you may need to add a hole in the firewall to allow traffic from 192.168.1.1 to come back in...

The modem is the "internet" - that is the traffic that will be coming in from it.
