Just wanted to know has anyone tried an iSight camera and iChat on a Swiftel dsl line? Any comments/feedback would be appreciated.

I tried an iSight with my new SwiftDSL ADSL connection yesterday (1500/256) and have already had video chats with people in Germany and the US - dead easy and stunning quality!!!

Hi,
Can you tell me a little about your setup please? Particularly your modem type and the configuration you used. Did you open ports specifically for iChat? Have you tried using an Airport with the setup?
Thanks.

Modem/router: NetComm NB1300 Plus 4
I didn't have to open any ports for iChat (I don't think!).
I don't have Airport.
I do have a luverly dual G5 though! :)

Hi again. Did you configure your modem to run in bridge mode, or did you leave its router function on?
Thanks

You are really pushing the limits of my understanding here Julius! (I had a friend who helped me over the phone to set things up).
However, I am 99% certain that it isn't in bridge mode which means, I guess, that I have "left its router function on".

It is ok. Thanks for the informatiion. I have just read a lot of discussion on Apple's support page about people have problems with iChat especially when using routers. The problem doesn't seem to be Apples, but rests with the individual router/modem manufacturers. Anyway, I will know early next week when I come back to Sydney and set up. Will let you know about the Airport too.
See you.

You should be alright.
AFAIK iChat does not require any ports to be forwarded.
The problems that you speak of are actually problems with routers with firewalling.

I am running I sight and chatting with family in Hong Kong
I have a 512/128 account, dual 2GHZ. airport base station, and an alcatel speed touch home modem. I am using the airport for the pppoe login and NAT translation altho it is wired to the G5 via Ethernet.
IchatAV worked first go and I am getting clear pictures from HK..

I have now set up my airport base station. Otherwise I am using hte Netcomm Ethernet Modem, (set to bridge mode) and Mac OS 10.3.2 on a G5 2G.
Everything works perfectly. Great video conferencing with mostly 20fps. Excellent way to keep in contact with other mac users. Hope they open it up to Windows users too.
