hey, just got dsl. I connected my xbox through my network card as I have a USB modem. It does not however work for some bizarre reason. It says it cant detect an internet connection
is there some settings i need to use to make sure the xbox recieves my comp signal
More information would be nice.
However, I believe this is your situation.
Modem plugs directly into PC.
Xbox plugs into Ethernet Card in PC.
First, you MUST use a cross-over cable (for your connection method)
Second: Have you enabled Internet Connection Sharing on your Ethernet Card ? It sounds like you haven't done this.
If you're using XP, it's very easy to enable ICS.
Below URL is what you're after. It will show you how to set ICS in great detail (below url requires you to Register)

No real need to register on the above site, just use this: http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/live/start/connect/
When it tries to connect to XBL, it should run the troubleshooter - what does it actually say the problem is?
EDIT: On a side note CinC/Fanger: In the thread you linked to, it says Now we have to set the same IP numbers on the xbox as on the Local Area Connection. Two networking devices can't have the same IP or it won't work. Sounds like that the Xbox has realized this error and assigned itself the next ip up (ie. 192.168.0.2) - you should probably edit your post. I would have posted a reply in that thread, but its locked.
Thanks for pointing that out.
I haven't read that actually post because I don't use the shitty ICS method. I will let fanger know of this. Cheers again.
