sanchez.swiftdsl.com.au's GameTag is SwiftDSL 1 It is running SOF2.

wookie.swiftdsl.com.au's GameTag is SwiftDSL 2 . It is running RtCW.

I will post the complete details ASAP.

That is really good of Swiftel.
Swiftel must realise there is a big demand for Xbox LIVE.
They Rock.
Good stuff.

Yes it is.

If its not right now, it will be as soon as the engineers add the IP's to the lists...

Bloody awesome!!

I just joined Swiftel 2 days ago, and with my speed tests, a "Swift" (hahaha, get it?) response to an upload problem, and with no packet loss problems unlike my last ISP. I'm here to stay with Swiftel as they seem to understand their customers do like to play occasionally.

One more question, if i am correct with the way XBox Live works, this would mean you have 2 xbox's each with live subscriptions in order to do this, yes?

roach76
15-11-2003, 05:21 PM
...and running as dedicated too which is a bonus. Out of curiousity, what is their upload connection speed? 1.5M? 2M? 3M?!?! ......lol

They are housed at Swiftel's Sydney POP and AFAIK they are plugged directly into a switch, so the the limit is negligible.

I think these Xboxs should be limited to only Swiftel Users.

It is better for Swiftel because then they are not providing a service for users of other ISPs for nothing ($100 a year for each Live Subscription is $100 a year). Imagine when other ADSL users from other ISPs find out that Swiftel is hosting servers for Xbox Live. If it's only for Swiftel Users then you can guarantee more people will transfer their ADSL over.

It would also be better for Swiftel users. At the moment only 28 people can get on these Xboxs (16 for RTCW and 12 for SOF2). Imagine if all those 28 were from other ISPs, then there would be no benefit to Swiftel Users. You can't do this through the friend's list because as far as I am aware, there is a limit of about 100 friend's in the list per subscription. With Swiftel users having static IPs, it would be very easy to set up a firewall.

I agree it should be for swiftel members only. Now we need more Xbox Live games that let you run a dedicated servers. The only ones I know of are UC,RTCW,SOF2 and R63

"Excellent but is it for swiftel members only or can anyone join."

There are no restrictions at the moment.

I am not sure what advantages there are to restricting the games servers to Swiftel only users.

When they were set up it was on the basis that Swiftel users would want to play with their friends who may not be Swiftel users.

As the Xboxes are a bad form factor (for standard racks) there is a limit to how many boxes can be deployed at the moment.

I can see this, but when I searched for your Xbox hosting RTCW last night, I never saw it listed in the Server List all night. So it was probably full all the time, which definitely doesn't surprise me. Remember to, that friends are the most influential people to refer you to Swiftel.

I never thought of that. So I guess they're just sitting on the floor?.....lol.

I read this statement and I guess I should say that if you are desperate, or even just want them to fit into something a little more standard, u can pull the internals out and place them into a PC case (the PC case, i think, requires a tiny bit of modding).

As floor space is more expensive than rack space that would not be a good idea.

No desperation. Just a comment on RU dimensions vs X Box dimensions.

Are there any plans for a similar setup for WA?

"Are there any plans for a similar setup for WA?"

Yes, but no firm timeframe yet.

Swiftel are still in the process of ensuring that the set up, maintenance and management of a games site is within the capabilities (and budgets) of the business plan and the personnel.

Great news but why host SOF2?

I know alot of people out there play it but its not really a game that requires much bandwidth, would much prefer Swiftel hosts some Rainbow Six 3 now that its out....

Anyway its awesome news, much appreciated.

When we did the R&D for the XBox's Rainbow Six 3 had not been released.

Plus its long term popularity has not yet been proven.

what good is it knowing that swiftel have xbox servers ?!?

ie how does one connect to their servers usin xbox live?
I thought it was a p2p connection using a host xbox as a server?

so how does one connect to swiftels servers?? do you need to route your xbox through a pc??

is it xbconnect ?!?!

I thought it was a p2p connection using a host xbox as a server? That is correct, Xbox Live is a P2P connection. The person who is hosting the game has other people connect to their Xbox. But in this case, SwiftDSL is being the host, and since they has a massive amount of bandwidth to use up they do not have the same limitations as a standard 512/128 aDSL connection.

You can find the servers by doing an Optimatch search with Dedicated server set to "yes" - since there are very few dedicated servers in Australia, SwiftDSL should be at the top of your list.

Swiftel.

I still think you should host Rainbow Six instead of Soldier of Fortune. Granted it wasnt released at the time you comissioned the servers but at the moment half the people on my friends list are playing it and alot of them are Swiftel users.

The games you have mentioned don't have a dedicated server option (unless you go as observer as the host in GR).

fanger
19-11-2003, 10:23 PM
Thats right the only XBL games that have a dedicated server options are

Unreal Championship
SOF2
RTCW
Rainbow six 3

roach76
20-11-2003, 12:44 AM
and soon Counter-Strike as dedicated.

Can only play 10 players max on non-dedicated, so we need more games like this supporting the dedicated server option.

Counter-strike would be sweet. That game is going to be huge. Just ask any EB store about how many pre-orders they have for that game.

Can you please add me to the swiftdsl 1 or 2 friend list as I cant seem to find the server. That way I could invite other swiftel users in as well.

(Vote 1 Counter-Strike)

If not I understand 'only 100 friends per a friend list, cant have favourites'

I have sent the Xbox servers a Friend's Request since I knew they were up. The requests are still sitting there. They won't accept any of them because the limit is only 100 people on the Friends list and there are more than 100 Swiftel users. That would be unfair to anyone who misses out.

25-11-2003, 10:00 PM
Okay i have been around all the xbox forums in Australia and the most popular games wanted are RS3 and Project gotham racing 2. These servers would go off if you could host them!

PGR2 does not have the capability to run in dedicated server mode.

Also, I've seen people with a 512/128 account being about to host the full 8 players so I don't think it would be required even if it did have a dedicated server option.

There is also the point that it would be kinda pointless for most people.

Even if one of the SwiftDSL techs did accept the friends request, it would only list "SwiftDSL1 is online playing SOF2" with the only option to delete the user from the friends list. You can't join a friend if they are running a dedicated server, only see their online/offline status.

nonny
26-11-2003, 08:38 AM
Yup only games that have a dedicated mode could be run so you have a choice of :

Unreal Championship
Return To Castle Wolfenstein
Soldier Of Fortune II
Rainbow Six 3
Counter Strike

I would say go with Rainbow Six 3 as very few people have the ability to run a full server without some lag issues and its hugely popular online at the moment as well.

Having a dedicated 16 player server for that game would ensure its usage, same goes for CounterStrike when it comes out this week which would also be great as I believe you can only host 10 players if your not running dedicated.

I am pretty sure you can in at least Rainbow 6 3. Remoraz and Mastiha AU host dedicated at night and joining them thru my friend list is the only way I am able to find there server.

Do you reckon that there would be more than 200 swiftel users that have xbox live?

But even so, the Swiftel team don't have time to go to the Xbox every day and accept new friends requests - They don't have the Xbox's in their office or anything.

The problem is..

If we join a 3rd party game we can play but we cant chat.. I can hear eveyone else but not my friend that is with swift. He can hear everone too.

If one of us hosts a game the other cant join...

If we go tho chat on xbox dash we get an error live is not responding..

Xbox say our line is clashing because we live close. our messages head but each other...

But we tried it at the same house through a router shairing an internet connection and everything worked perfect. not a prob. no head but from same house....

Does anyone with swift have this prob with friends that live close.
It sucks......................

Thanks.

I've come across this before its either a router problem or a firewall problem but most times its a router. If its a firewall problem you have to open up the ports for XBL.
I bet your router is a Dlink

Ok first thing to do is update the firewire on your router.I use the netcomm 1300 like your mate and have never had a problem but for some reason some dlink routers have problems on XBL
Pop over to www.xboxzone.com.au and post your problem in the wired network section there are alot of people with dlink and there might be able to help you more

First things first, update your firmware like Fanger suggested. Xbox.com lists your router as 'Xbox compatible', but only if you have the latest firmware.

So after flashing to the latest firmware, reset the modem, either the button behind your router or with an option on your router's configuration page. Then just set it up for your ISP. Done!! According to xbox.com you should have no problems on the default settings.

If you wish to set up a firewall you have to open ports:

UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074

But without a firewall you shouldn't need to do this. Your router should forward them automatically like mine does (DSL-504). UPnP will automatically forward a port when your Xbox requests it.

I am not familiar with the D-link 614+ web configuration page, but I have downloaded the manual for your router so I'll have a look at it. But we can try this 1 step at a time, but for now try this......again.

1. Check if there is an update for your router "and" your modem's firmware (There are 2 versions of your router, get the right one). Update if possible.

2. "Reset to Factory Defaults" for both router and your modem, clear all network settings in your xbox (switch everything to automatic and turn PPPoE off, make sure there are no hostname's, MAC address settings etc.). This will put me at a point where I'll have a better understanding of what your settings are.

3. Then enter "ONLY" the information required to connect to your ISP. Use your modem's internal login client if it has one, if not use your router's one next (PPPoA if your modem/router has the option to use it, but try the modem first if it has it) instead of your xbox's.

Try this first!!!

hmm how about using the friends list option, some games allow you to set a number places you want to leave open to guys on your friends list. If you make it that all places are reserved for friends, then wouldn't that have the same effect as having it password protected??
