does that mean u have 3 pc's? 1 laptop and 2 computers?

what is the difference between HUB and SWITCHES ??

A hub is basically a device that connects all the computers connected to it by replicating the data sent to it and sending it to each computer. A switch will send the data straight to their destination rather than to every computer. The best choice is to get a switch as it's much more efficient than a hub and won't set u back much more. A 4 port switch averages around $40 in computer shops.

Also, if you're really budget minded and your machines have enough network cards, you can "bridge" two or more cards together on one machine. In other words you can daisy chain your PCs together and let them share the internet that way. The disadvantage is that computers meed to be turned on to perform bridging. In XP, just select one or more network cards, right click, and select "bridge".

A switch may be a good choice for a busy network with more than 3 machines. As mentioned previously it routes data down specific cables. There can be a cost though - latency! It takes time to decide which cable to send data down. A hub should have lower latency than a switch because it makes no decisions. Therefore, a hub may produce a better result for a small home network.
