I used to use Enternet 100 (version 1.09) on my old 9.2 iMac, once free from NTS www.nts.com.
However it's no longer free & has become bloated.

Today I simply have NAT on my windows box doing the work for the entire LAN.

Thanks for your reply grozzie,

you would think that there are other mac users on 9.0 with the same problem. I went to that site you suggested but yes they do want cash.

I want to know whether i really need PPPoE.

Anyway i will wait and hope for an answer

thanks

Hi again punch,

You need PPPoE software only if your ADSL modem doesn't do the login for you, my Dlink 300+ has this option, but instead I had the iMac do the authenticating because at the time I was running multi logins (each box acquiring its own public ip from the modem via PPPoE software clients).

To authenticate via the modem, the modem must support auto login in, you then won't need any software, the Mac will connect via ethernet to the modem-internet.

PPPoE under OS 9 is a dead loss.

You need something else to do that for you, preferably in silicon.
Grozie's right - There's any number of modems out there that will do the job and just deliver you straight ethernet downstream.

Don't hold out hope for a solution for OS 9 because I don't think it's going to happen. Mentat streams and the whole OT thing was great while it lasted, but it's over now and all the clever developers have moved on...

cheers

Download MacPoet 1.1 here:
http://www.mactechnicalservices.com/downloads/MacPoET1.1.sit.bin

Or 1.2 here:
http://www.mactechnicalservices.com/downloads/MacPoET1.2.sit.bin

And read this:
http://www.carricksolutions.com/macpoet.php

I haven't tried any of this so I don't know if the installer asks for a serial number or anything like that. I think version 1.1 has problems so I would try 1.2.

There are more old apps here:

It would be best if you can get your modem to do the PPOE/authentication though.
