Simple question, is 256/64 fast enough for XBL ?
Cheers,

No.
I know several people that have such an account and the upload speed just doesn't cut it. Their voice constantly cuts in an out.

Thats right your upload speed is the most important from XBL and 64 kpbs isn't fast enough you want a minimum of 128kpbs

Bare minimum for live is 512/128 on ADSL.
Luckily swiftel offer a really affordable package at that speed, hell its about the same price as other ISPs charge for 256/64 anyway!

Hi Guys , when you say 512/128 is the bear minimum how does this speed perform?
What I mean is are the games on xbox live just playable? (you can play but the game it's choppy as?) or are the games playing smootly more or less with only minor lag?

If you playing games you'll be fine (as long as you join servers that appear as a green dot in RTCW for example).

My couisin only has 256/64 and he has no probs in SOFII and mechasault, as these are the only games he has but I guess he may have some probs with other games.

SOF2 has excellent netcode, but Mechassault hides the lag. Only really noticeably when you pick up the upgrades.

I started with a 256/64 connection - but just had it updated to 512/128. Its the upload speed that kills it. I have been using it playing CS. It is only really useable with under 8 people. You can play - but its a bit laggy at times. You may find yourself being kicked also as with being connected the other players may start getting upset and kick you off.. understandable though. hehehe:)

As long as you have the recommended minimum speeds stated by Microsoft as 512/128. Then lag issues, assuming there's nothing wrong with your line, and you aren't hosting, usually are caused by someone else.
Whether there is 2 people or 1000, you still only have to communicate with the host, just the one guy. It is up to the host to talk to 'everybody'. If the host has the speed needed to host a certain game, it will lag if there is packet loss through transmission of data or someone has a relatively slow connection like 256/64.
If you are getting kicked cause you have joined a game where the host can't support anymore, it is his fault, he is the moron for not limiting the maximum player limit.
