I was getting similar things happening on my linux box as well.

http://forum.swiftdsl.com.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2114

The connection never seems to be lost for me but it seems strange that it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting....?????:confused:

Thougts

Have you changed your Nic lately ?

http://www.voy.com/41165/2589.html
-Resolve->http://www.voy.com/41165/2640.html

Swapped my NIC and all is functional. FYI, the Intel Etherexpress ISA card (eexpress.c) does not work with pppoe nor dhcp.

http://www.ale.org/archive/ale/ale-2003-01/msg00785.html

TEST

pppoe -I eth? -A

(replacing ? with the appropriate number) to see if you get a PADO
response from sending a PADI to a particular ethernet port.

#Rings Bell#

Didn't someone have a problem with !

* ACCESS Concentrator service Name change
* MAC Ethernet ADDRESS

By using the roaring pengiun pppoe client I
was able to see some extra information about my connection.

:P The command "pppoe -I eth1 -A" gave me :
---------------------------------------- ---------
Access-Concentrator: vet2-exhibition
AC-Ethernet-Address: 00:60:38:e6:80:28
---------------------------------------- --------- :)

Richard thank you for your respons

this what i get

[root@pathfinder root]# pppoe -I eth0 -A

pppoe: Timeout waiting for PADO packets

now i have this funny feeling the cause of all this is that i had 4 black outs in 15mins....its either stuffed my eth0 in nix box or stuffed up my modem

so i guess the next thing i could do is change my card of hoping that may fix the problem

just did a test i stoped my connection typed same command in and i get this

[root@pathfinder root]# pppoe -I eth0 -A
Access-Concentrator: nkw5-kent
AC-Ethernet-Address: 00:60:38:ec:c0:29
--------------------------------------------------

Do you have a new panasonic phone on that line ?

What Brand Model is your modem ?

Did you follow that Link to the other forum message !

Something to do with Cacheing the Access-Concentrator name, not the one that it currently reoported from that command but the previous one...

http://www.routerlinux.com/docs/manual/man5/pppoe.conf.5.html

Try:

ACNAME
If this is not blank, then it is passed with the -C option to pppoe. It specifies the name of the access concentrator to connect to. Usually, you should leave it blank.

-C nkw5-kent

Hiya,

I churned yesterday and was originally losing connection every 50 seconds or so. The logs showed the same "Inactivity timeout... something wicked happened on session <PID>"

Searching around a bit I found reference to the LCP interval setting. Under redhat, in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0 i changed my initial LCP_INTERVAL setting from 80 to 10 and have been reliably connected ever since. May be of use.

LCP_INTERVAL=10

Cool.

You're right. Mine does seem marginaly slower in establishing the connection, but it doesn't go down now as you said.
