There is a new SMTP server in Sydney available to Sydney and Melbourne customers.
Note: this is an SMTP ONLY server – you can not use it as a POP3 or IMAP server.
To use it instead of the Perth based server, set your email client to:
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.swiftdsl.com.au
This server offers significant performance improvements for Sydney and Melbourne customers.

Excuse my ignorance DSL_Tech, but are you recommending us users in Sydney change our outgoing email settings:
from: mail.swiftdsl.com.au (which I have it as )
to: smtp.swiftdsl.com.au ???????
Cheers
Yes he is recommending you change it if you are having problems sending email. I don't know if this is supposed to be a permanent or temporary change, however.

EDIT: smtp.swiftdsl.com.au is not resolving for me for some reason.
As an additional note, love your work now that you have fixed the melbourne pop, now what to download in a couple of days with 6gig to spare ??!!

It is a permanent change, the server was due to be relased into prduction this week, and now seemed like an appropriate time.

For your reply, all your hard work and keeping us up to date.
Must be time for a bonus?:D
should this not be an announcement?
Or will you at least be mentioning it in a future announcement, as alot of people may not read this.

What are you using as a DNS server? smtp.swiftdsl.com.au is new, but our name servers were able to resolve it before we made the announcement.
I just tried also and it is not resolving
The host 'smtp.swiftdsl.com.au' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'mail.swiftdsl.com.au', Server: 'smtp.swiftdsl.com.au', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
My DNS servers are set manually in windows as follows
Primary 202.154.83.53
Secondary 202.154.92.35
-- EDITED --
After trying to connect to the server again using the melbourne primary DNS I got through and the email was sent EXTREMLY FAST!!!!!
I have since removed the melbourne DNS server entry and am using the two sydney ones again. I can still connect and send email through the new server. So im not sure if it is resolving now for the sydney DNS or whether my computer has just cached the entry from when it resolved from the melbourne DNS

I use the 2 melbourne DNS servers off your list.

Thanks for that, one of the name servers had a negatively cached smtp.swiftdsl.com.au entry. Dumped its cache and it can now resolve it. Does it work now?

Works like a treat, although I am now not sure if it was you as much as me, I just rebuild my server (freebsd 4.8) from the sources and it replaced my bind9 with bind8 which caused a few errors with my bind9 zone files.
Thanks and keep up the great work,
Matt.

Yes things seem to be running quite smoothly. I have sent a few emails to myself through the new server and they are getting sent just fine.
you should update the members area front page with that info.
