i no what u mean.. it happened to me before..
the socket connection between ur phone line and the phone socket on ur modem is loose..
to fix it.. just keep readjusting it and restarting the modem... that should fix it... if u have NB 1300.. high chance thats the problem..
once its fixed... leave it there and dun move it too much or it will start happening again..
good luck..!!~

I kept a bit of a log the other week, hasnt been as bad this week.
could have something to do with that virus that was clogging up the email at telstra.
Ive got a nb modem, first one was returned, the replacement has the phone line lose, but the ethernet connection is pitiful, hold your breath and dont move it once it is in place, I have to wrap it around to keep it in place.
Maybe if we just closed the internet when a new virus is around the hackers will get sick of their games no longer being available and stop acting like 3 year olds.

While I sympathise with your frustration you aren't making a lot of sense.
If you have defective equipment, provided by Swiftel, we will replace it.
If there is something wrong with your line Swiftel will get Telstra to fix it.
If there is something wrong with your set up then you need to fix that.
What ADSL does NOT do is randomly drop out.

Above is a log of times last week when my connection wouldnt work. It would just drop out and then some time later without me doing anythinng would come back on. This week it hasnt been so bad.
The modem I had needed to be returned and was replaced with a new one because the first was faulty. The replacement has a phone line connection that is a little loose compared to other modems I have, while the lan connection is very loose, you have to get the plug into the right position, otherwise it wont work. To do this I wrap the cord around it to keep the pressure on.
From what I have seen of reports of the NB from customers, it seems that it leaves a bit to be desired as far as manufacturing is concerned.
I know ADSL isnt supposed to drop out, but it seems to be an issue at other forums as well.

"To do this I wrap the cord around it to keep the pressure on."
Thay is unacceptable.
Please email:
adslsales@swiftel.com.au
with your account details and we will replace it if you bought it from Swiftel.

Same thing is happening to me, it just drops out after a couple of hours, an the only way to get the modem working again is to turn on and off the modem, simply rebootin windows dont work.
I also run teh netcomm 1300.

same here, on the NB, mine would stop for hours on end then just start up again. I tried to turn it on and off which worked once. When I couldnt get it going again I turned off the auto address detect and typed in the IP adress and DNS numbers and it started up again. I also changed the last number in the IP address to 3, dont know if that made any difference but it is still going so maybe it is an windows or XP issue.

The ip address is the one from the modem handbook, the last number is 2 which I changed to 3. It worked when I used the original number but I thought I would just change to see if it made any difference, so far so good. If you see the post above I was getting cut off constantly, so maybe it is something to do with the auto detect in XP. My dial modem has disappeared on occasions and has to be re installed.
In the manual (page 6) it says your computer should be on 192.168.1.100 or similar so I thought what the hell. got cut off again so I changed the last number to 4 and it started again
Im in Sydney.

i found out why mine was dropping out... i have a monitored alarm on the same phone line and it didnt have a filter, even if u put a line filter it wont work because its line goes directly to the main line if you know what i mean so we just needed to put a central filter on and it now works fine plus i dont need any line filters anymore what so ever!!!! there is a down side to this story though :( when the Technician came and rang swiftel to see weather he would install the filter or swift would, he asked them and they replyed, what is a central filter????, no offence to swiftel, because they have been great to me but maybe i think you should take alittle closer look towards the hardware side of dsl..... thats just my thoughts..... but thanks anyway for all your help!

Its cutting out again and wont start up again, no matter what i do, so back to the drawing board, or back to the manufaturer. We only have two phones both with filters.

well we had a telstra man come out and install it for us but we knew him (BONUS!!!) so we got it for free but he said they usually cost something around $150 - $180 dollars extra for installation.....

Yeh its down again!
On the positive they do SMS us to let us know.
On the negative the uptime isn't that good at present and the blame gets passed on - normally back to Telstra.
To keep an eye on whats happening u can use your winipcfg to see whether you are connecting (adsl).
The present problem (Syd) is effecting the PPP - wrong time to be installing a gateway for ADSL.
Lucky we kept dial up!
